Project Overview

Nashville International Airport (BNA) has continually evolved to keep pace with the region’s historic growth, setting new passenger records year after year. As part of BNA’s ambitious New Horizon expansion program, major upgrades are underway to enhance the airport’s baggage handling capacity and long-term efficiency.

Upon completion, the new baggage handling system will feature more than three miles of conveyor designed to support up to 40 million annual passengers. The scope of work includes construction of a 22,000-square-foot facility and reconstruction of the aircraft apron serving gates C1, C2, and C3.

During this phased project, Sunrise is responsible for demolition of the existing apron concrete, site grading for the new building and reconstructed apron, and installation of underground utility infrastructure. Performing site work within an active international airport environment presents unique logistical and safety challenges. Through close coordination with the general contractor, other trades, and airport operations personnel, the project has progressed efficiently and safely.

The results are already taking shape—and visitors can see the team’s progress firsthand from a bird’s-eye view through the terminal windows.
