Project Overview

Located just East of downtown, Nashville International Airport is an award winning, world-class airport that has kept up with Greater Nashville’s rapid growth through multiple expansion projects to accommodate visitors and locals alike. Sunrise has been a part of the Airport’s growth by working on Garages B and C. Totaling 2,290,000 SF and 5,000 car parking garage, the two garages also serve as the infrastructure for the new Hilton brand hotel and the MNAA Administration office building.

Whether you have visited the area or live nearby, you probably noticed that this part of town is home to some of the hardest limestone rock around the region. Due to vehicular and pedestrian traffic, interfering with airport operations and risks related to blasting; we decided to use alternative approaches to the large rock excavation package. Using a combination of drum cutters, rock saws, hydraulic hammers, and track drills; Sunrise worked day and night to excavate the rock to sub-grade, footings and under slab utilities to ensure that the project schedule would remain on track. Sunrise also installed multiple water quality units and an under-garage storm water storage system that has the capacity to hold 39,330 cubic feet (or 294,208 gallons) of rain water before being treated.
